Following the ICANN updates, i.e. the request for validation of registrant data for international domains (.com / .org / .net / .info / .biz / .tel / .mobi / .tv / .ch / co.uk), with this article we would like to provide you with more information on the methods and timing of validation of the domain holder's data and in which cases the operation is required.

We remind you that for .it and .eu domains no changes have been made in the methods of registration, transfer or modification of the owner's data of the internet domain.

When is validation of registrant data required? Following a new registration, transfer, change of name, surname and email address and in the event of failure to send periodic registry communications (called WHOIS Data Reminder Policy) which inform you about the expiry of the domain or confirm the data of the domain holder.

All emails are sent from the international registry (OpenSRS) at midnight (EST time, i.e. Canadian and US local time)

To whom is the validation email sent and how long do I have to approve the correctness of the data? The validation email is sent by OpenSRS first to the registrant's email contact and in the last communications also to the admin, technical and billing email. We remind you that you can check the email addresses registered as registrant, admin, billing and tech (in the technical contact you will find the provider's references, in this case our company Colt Engine srl) by consulting any whois on the internet, such as http://www.tucowsdomains.com/whois

Once you have received this email you will have 15 days to validate your data and thus avoid having your domain suspended. The validation email will be resent within the 15 day window with the following timing:

Day 0 domain registered, transferred or update of name, surname or email address: the registry sends the email requesting you to verify the data entered. The requested operation is NOT performed

Day 5 the register resends the validation email. The requested operation is NOT performed

Day 10 the registry resends the validation email to the registrant, admin, tech and billing contacts. The operation is NOT executed

Day 13 as on day 10, the registry resends the validation email to the registrant, admin, tech and billing contacts. The operation is NOT executed

Day 15 no communication is sent and it is the last day to validate your data

Day 16 the domain is suspended and placed in clientHold status, the registry notifies you by sending a communication via email.

What happens if the domain registrant is not validated in time? Suspension of the domain does not lead to cancellation, the domain will remain registered until it expires and in the case of automatic renewal, it will be renewed. Suspension causes non-visibility, lack of functionality of the website and email.
