JoomlaDay is an opportunity to network, to update on the status of the Joomla! project, but not only that, it is also an event full of sessions of a technical, commercial, legal nature, in short, we touch on 360° topics that interest us all every day, in the company or in our web agency.

I remind you that, in the next few days, all the videos of the speeches that took place at JoomlaDay will be published. So SUBSCRIBE TO THE Joomla.it NEWSLETTER to be updated in real time.

But, we have Rowan here, we can't help but take this opportunity to ask her a few questions:

https://youtu.be/0eCu0Xenp5A

Marco: Rowan, can you tell us something more about the new version of Joomla? What should we expect?

Rowan: Joomla! 3.9 was released this afternoon. We are introducing some aspects including the Privacy Tool Suite to meet some privacy laws such as the GDPR and other international laws. In this way we are able to track user consents. There will also be a new API to allow extension developers to benefit from the tools as well as the core. We will also have the Invisible Recapthca functionality, new search functions within the text of the articles (not just in the title) and over 250 corrections and improvements available on GITHUB.

Marco: Many users ask us if upgrading from Joomla version 3 to 4 will be simple, what can you tell us about it?

Rowan: We've worked hard to ensure the migration is as seamless as possible, but of course, with each major release we have to introduce compatibility breaks to ensure new features are added. The backend update will be done with one click and we are also working on version 3.10 to introduce some compatibility tests so as to verify and evaluate what problems could be in case of migration to version 4.x. I know many third-party developers are working to make updates to their products as easy as possible. We are doing our best, obviously something could change, but it should all be very linear.

Marco: Last question, in your opinion why should a Web Agency choose Joomla! for your clients' projects?

Rowan: The first reason is definitely safety, we have had an excellent track record in this area. We also have many more features in the core than any other platform and this greatly reduces the need to install plugins. We have existed for 13 years now, we are completely Open Source, we have a large amount of extensions available... in short, there are many reasons.

We thank Rowan for his time and thank you for the time he dedicates to the Joomla! project.
