IBM #reloop2: when Open Source reigns supreme!

The day was divided into two parts. During the morning, numerous IBM partners and companies outside the network took turns on stage and gave their testimony on the potential of the Power8 platform. Among the numerous speakers, there were also our colleagues Alessandro and Andrea, who told their impressions on the potential of the platform resulting from two weeks of tests and experiments. The undisputed protagonist of their presentation, which you find below, was the joomla.it website!

In order to test the performance of TurboLAMP to the maximum - the stack for high performance web applications promoted by IBM and built on the Power8 platform using MariaDB as database and ZendServer as application server - our guys decided to use a clone instance of the joomla.it website and to bombard it with thousands of requests simulating possible user interactions. The comparison between the performance of the test site and the production site highlighted the robustness and reliability of the solution designed by IBM.

The collaboration between JoomlaHost, Zend, MariaDB and IBM generated a test project characterized by the professionalism, experience, enthusiasm and technological innovation of each of the parties involved and was finally expressed in an afternoon workshop which highlighted some important messages, as stated by Maria Luisa Raviol of MariaDB and Elena Brambilla of Zend, including:

The values of Open Source and the innovation it brings to business activities

The simplicity of access and creation of an entry level solution in the Linux/Lamp world

The high added value that the combination of Power8 (IBM) and Open Source (Joomla, MariaDB and PHP) can each convey to the advantage of the other.

We wanted to thank IBM for the machines made available for the test and for all the help given by the Segrate Client Center team for allowing us to carry out this type of test and organizing our talk. We will definitely hear more about Power8 in the open source world in the future.
