.edu.it domains: starting from September 20th!

The Registry (registro.it) is the body responsible for the assignment and management of domain names within the SLD edu.it.

Registering and maintaining a . edu.it is delegated to Registro.it through accredited Registrars, like us. As with all domains, we will act as intermediaries towards the Registry for all registration and maintenance operations.

As regards the rules relating to the registration and maintenance of the domain, I refer you to the previous article as they have not changed. Italian public and private schools will be uniquely identified by a mechanical code.

.edu.it domains are valid for one year from the date of registration. Upon expiration, in case of non-renewal, the domain status will go into Pending Delete/Redemption period for 30 days. In this state the domain can be renewed, probably with an additional cost yet to be quantified.

.edu.it domain names are not subject to the Drop Time mechanism, i.e. the cancellation of the domain at pre-established times, therefore the domain will be definitively canceled the day following the transition to the pending delete / pending delete state (state following the Pending Delete/Redemption period)

How will the transition from gov.it to edu.it take place?

We are aware of how important it is to maintain your domain and in order to encourage the migration of all domains, the .it Registry in collaboration with AGID and MIUR, has decided for one year (from 20 September 2018 to 19 October 2019) to reserve in the sld edu.it the domains of schools that had already registered their name with the .gov.it extension.

Therefore, by proceeding promptly with registration, you will be able to maintain the same third level, for example: scuolacattaneo.gov.it can become scuolacattaneo.edu.it.

From 20 October 2019, names not yet registered will become available again and will be assigned according to the chronological order in which requests arrive.

The verification of ownership of the domain name is based on the correspondence of the pair "tax code" and "mechanographic code" of the requesting party.
