edu.it domains – 1 year later

During 2018, as the situation became increasingly clear, we collected all the information until September 20th a year ago, when the edu.it domains finally became available for registration by any type of educational institution.

As we had already anticipated in various articles and videos, for the entire course of the first year, the registration of edu.it domains was made available free of charge by Registro.it with the possibility of reserving the same domain name for all institutions that had already registered a gov.it domain.

What has changed after a year for edu.it domains? Let's start immediately by sharing the official news released on 18 September 2019 on the Registro.it website:

EDU.IT: Reserved Domains and Registration Fees The following news is specified in the short news:

– the domain names of the schools which previously had a gov.it extension and which had been reserved in the SLD edu.it for a period of one year, will again become available and will be assigned according to the chronological order of arrival of the requests;

– domain names with the edu.it extension will no longer be available free of charge to Registrars, but subject to the same registration and maintenance fees as .it domain names"

Unlike what was previously communicated by the registry itself, the final date for reserving the domain name from gov.it to edu.it was brought forward by one month.

Likewise, the possibility of registering the edu.it extension for free also ended one month earlier than the date of 20 October 2019 communicated a year ago.

Therefore, starting from 20 September 2019 on the Host website it is possible to continue to register edu.it domains for all educational institutions (which will always be authorized and verified via the mechanographic code associated with the school's tax code) at the same price as .it domains, i.e. €6/year.

As regards the possibility of also purchasing hosting for the website, we continue to give the possibility of accessing an offer dedicated to all educational institutions at €55/year.
