Since January 2017, Google has started marking websites that do not implement an SSL Certificate as "not secure", showing a warning which, in some cases, could even scare our visitor. Imagine you have an e-commerce site and you are about to ask that user for money. Do you think they will trust your site?

The secure HTTPS protocol guarantees encrypted communication between the browser of the person browsing the site and the server hosting it. Therefore, everything that passes through it, whether it is a password or a credit card number, will be safe from prying eyes.

So, is it important to enable secure protocol on our website? Obviously yes and it was even before Google scared our visitors! Let's say that Google's intent is to make the Internet a safer place every day and we all know that without good reason, we are a little lazy in accepting changes.

In summary, why do I need to enable the secure protocol on my website?

to ensure greater security for my users;

to make my website more reliable to the perception of visitors;

to make my site more attractive to Google's ranking algorithms.

Well yes, HTTPS is a ranking factor and Google has repeatedly stated that it prefers HTTPS sites, which are positioned better in search results.

Ok, now that you are convinced the next question is: what should you do?

All you have to do is contact your hosting provider and ask to activate the SSL Certificate, but don't forget that you will also have to reconfigure the application in use, be it Joomla, WordPress or Prestashop, something needs to be done.

At HOST we include a free SSL Certificate on all our hosting plans and our customer service takes care of activating and configuring it on our customers' sites so that this is not an obstacle to implementation.

In the next episode, I will continue to talk about SSL Certificates, how many there are and which type is most suitable based on the category of your website. So subscribe to our channel and activate the bell to be notified when we publish new content, thank you and see you in the next video.
