Where are we? Version 2.5.x is now consolidated and conquers 50% compared to previous versions and the latest 3.3.6 which is starting to make its presence felt with a good 13.36%.

Version 1.5.26.j still maintains a good percentage (31.81%) but is continuously decreasing.

Joomla! version usage data - August 2014 The latest research carried out by JoomlaHost is from these days and has highlighted results worthy of a toast.

We took around 30 thousand sites as a sample and noted, compared to the latest published statistics, some important variations shown in the graph below:

Joomla! data - December 2014 Version 3.x conquers the year 2015 The data extracted is decidedly encouraging: compared to the last survey, the percentage of users using version 1.5.

The percentage of versions 1.0, 1.6 and 1.7 is decreasing, we remind you that their use is highly discouraged as they contain known security flaws and exploiting the vulnerabilities of an outdated Joomla!® site is relatively simple, paradoxically the instructions are easily found online.

Below is the graph relating to the growth of version 3.x and the failure of previous versions.

For those using an older version

JoomlaHost intends for its users to maintain all versions of the CMS, without any forced migration operations, allowing planning for subsequent versions with complete peace of mind.

For all those who use versions such as 1.0-1.5.x- 1.6- 1.7 and from January 2.5.x and for production sites we recommend planning the migration to version 3.3.X. The development team recently announced that they wanted to change the version release cycle.

Specifically, the terminologies "LTS" (long-term release) and "STS" (short-term release) will be abandoned, and version 3.x is confirmed as the main development branch. Version 3.x will benefit from official support at least for the entire year 2016.

We remind you that support for version 2.5.28 ended in December 2014 and no updates will be released even for security flaws.

Joomla! version - Year 2014 Before each migration, we advise you to check that the templates and components are compatible with the new installation and to perform a preventive data backup so that you can immediately restore the contents of the website in the event that the operation fails.

We greet you and meet you in about 4 months for a new statistics on the versions used by our users
