Where are we? Version 2.5.x is now consolidated but slightly decreasing compared to last April 2015. With the next statistics we will have the confirmation or (we hope not) the denial of the constant decrease in the use of version 2.5. The same goes for version 1.5 which is slowly and steadily declining in favor of the more recent 3.

Below we find the pie chart representing the use of the Joomla! versions. dating back to last April 2015.

Joomla! usage data - April 2015 I am really satisfied and encouraged to report the extracted data below, the latest research carried out by JoomlaHost.it is from these days and has highlighted excellent results.

We took around 30 thousand sites as a sample and noted, compared to the latest published statistics, some important variations shown in the graph below:

Joomla! usage data - August 2015 Version 3.x in the fast lane Yes, the Joomla! version 3 has "set the arrow" to overtake version 2.5. The data analyzed are decidedly positive: compared to the last survey, the percentage of users using versions 1.5.X and 2.5.X of the CMS has decreased in favor of a good 34.2% of version 3.x, a +5% (almost) compared to April 2015.

The percentage of versions 1.0, 1.6 and 1.7, although decreasing, is still present, I remember that use is highly discouraged as they contain known security flaws and exploiting the vulnerabilities of an outdated Joomla!® site is relatively simple, paradoxically the instructions are easily found online.

For those who use a version prior to 3.x, JoomlaHost.it intends to have its customers maintain all versions of the CMS, without any forced migration operations, allowing planning for subsequent versions with complete peace of mind.

I advise all those who use versions such as 1.0-1.5.x- 1.6- 1.7 and 2.5.x since last January and for production sites to plan the migration towards version 3.4.3, which is currently stable.

I remind you that community support for version 2.5.x ended last December 2014, this means that no more fixes or updates will be released, not even for security flaws.

Some advice The growth of version 3 is constant and is a positive result also strengthened by the increasingly more requests received from our technical staff regarding the operations to be carried out to migrate your version from 1.5 or 2.5 to 3.x. In this regard, I invite you to read the article "Do we speak the Joomla!® language?" but in particular I would like to point out the guide for migrating from version 2.5 to 3.

It is important to remember that before any migration, it is essential to verify that the templates and components are compatible with the new installation and to always perform a preventive data backup so as to be able to immediately restore the contents of the website in the event that the operation fails.

The next statistics will be published approximately between the end of December and the beginning of January 2016.

I greet you and renew the appointment in about 4 months for a new statistics on the versions used by our users.
